Why The Traditional Kenyan Safari Is Still Among The Best

Kenyan safari trips have traditionally been amongst the most popular in Africa, and that is still the case today. Despite the meteoric rise of South Africa as a tourist destination following the end of the apartheid regime in that country, Kenya has fought hard to retain its market share. It has not been difficult, as the East African region has some of the most interesting and varied terrain, as well as a very rich diversity of both bird and animal life. With large areas of thick jungle as well as rolling tropical plains, there is something in Kenya for everyone who wants to go on safari.

Kenya has more than enough versatility to be suitable for seasoned travelers as well as those who are completely new. Even if you have visited South Africa and the Kruger park for an initial insight into how safaris work, you will still find much that is new. Kenya is also a good place to begin your safari experience, as the Masai Mara camps and lodges offer quality accommodation in an area where the major large wild animals can be readily seen.

Kenyan safaris have traditionally been carried out using motor vehicles, because there is a lot of ground to cover as well as a need to keep the party as safe as possible. Many people are now deciding to try other ways of seeing the wildlife that is out there, and walking safaris and horseback riding will definitely give you a closer look. Just be sure to budget your time and energy properly, and remember that you need to travel back to your lodge as well as away from it.

There is another interesting development which has sprung up alongside these trends, and that is the addition of hot air balloons to the safari itinerary. These balloons give you a perfect aerial view of the jungle below, and while they don't offer the best seeing angle for all circumstances, they are certainly a worthwhile addition to any field trips. The issue of safety is of course critically important, and while height keeps you clear of some dangers it creates others in their place.

A Kenyan safari is, on the whole, one of the safest ways to see wildlife. The country is politically stable and is a distance away from any which are not. Provided you take all sensible precautions and travel with strong clothing and insect repellent, you should not have any safety issues. If you are new to safari, it will be much better for you to travel with an experienced guide. A top class guide can help anyone get the most of their safari experience, whether they have been on one before or not. There are many excellent guides on Kenyan safari.
